Hazmat and Asbestos Technician

Our division is a well -established Vancouver Island based company that specializes in complex deconstruction and engineered demolition projects, including hazmat and abatement.

We currently have 3 openings for a project based out of Nanaimo, BC. Projects and job sites will vary and are primarily located between Victoria and Campbell River, BC but may also include other areas of Vancouver Island.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demolition, hazardous material and cleanup of existing building structures
  • Preparation of job site for general construction
  • Construction containment, including shower and decontamination.
  • Perform hazardous building material abatement activities under the direction of the site supervisor.
  • General labour and cleanup.
  • Comply with applicable legislation, with attention to asbestos abatement and occupational health & safety.
  • Safely operate equipment.
  • All other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid BC Asbestos Awareness, Level 2 or 3 certification
  • Experience in hazardous material removal and/or asbestos abatement preferred.
  • Valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's license preferred.
  • Ability to travel to various work sites around Vancouver Island..
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in areas under deconstruction and contamination.
  • Able to push, pull,and  lift up to 23kg (50lbs)
  • Ability to wear specialized PPE, including full protective hazmat and respirator.
  • Ability to walk on varied terrain.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, stretch throughout a shift.
